6 Months Old

Isaac hit the half-year mark today.  There’s a quote to the effect of “the days are long, but the years are short” that seems appropriate to the last 6 months.   I had no idea what motherhood would be like.   I am enjoying immensely the chance to watch my son grow and learn everything.  This month, he has nearly learned to sit unassisted, how to consistently roll front-to-back, and occasionally roll back-to-front.   He is learning how to eat solid food and likes sweet potatoes, (just wait until he can have my father-in-law’s Kick-Ass Sweet Potatoes!)   He loves his baths and takes great pleasure in splashing as much as possible.   He watches for the dog to enter a room and then laughs and kicks as soon as he sees Jackson.   He has lots more hair than he did at birth, but it’s still not enough hair to show up in most of his photos.  Isaac is an amazing blessing in my life.

More Food

Isaac wasn’t a huge fan of the rice cereal.  I gave it to him 2 days in a row, but he started crying half-way through the second time and I didn’t want to traumatize him, so I quit trying to feed it to him.  I talked to my fab mommy-friends yesterday, all of whom were trying much funner things than cereal.  I decided we’d skip the cereal today and we tried sweet potatoes mixed with some milk, instead.  Success!  He loved the sweet potatoes.  I started with one teaspoon of the potatoes (same as I did with the cereal), but then mixed up another 1/2 teaspoon when he finished off the first serving!  Hooray!  I’m so glad that he seems to like the food in general, if not the boring old cereal…  Fortunately, Grandma made Isaac some nice big, terry cloth bibs, so he didn’t make nearly as big a mess of orange stuff as I’d anticipated.
Here’s a little clip of Isaac enjoying his lunch today:

He liked it so much, he was even ready to eat the bowl afterwards!

My Happy Baby

I love this little outfit sent to Isaac from Todd’s Aunt Geri and Uncle Bob.

Isaac gets so excited when Jackson walks into a room.  I can’t wait until they can play together.  Oh, wait, yes I can!!!  Not ready for a baby on the move just yet!
This is a little video I shot while sorting cloth diapers yesterday.  Jackson walked into the room:

Food!

This is totally irrelevant, but I have to share because I think the picture is too funny.  My friend Jessie joined Isaac and me for lunch today.  Isaac hung out in his high chair while I cooked and talked on the phone with Mom (Isaac’s Nana).  Here’s how Isaac entertained himself:

“Look, Mom, no hands!”

The grand adventure that is eating is beginning for Isaac.  We bought his first foods at Whole Foods yesterday.  Today, I made him some very liquefied rice cereal.  He made less of a mess than I anticipated, but fear not, he still had plenty of food on his chin and his bib.

He really wanted to chew on the spoon and didn’t understand why I kept taking it out of his mouth.

I can’t imagine that he actually swallowed more than 1/4 teaspoon of the food that did make it into his mouth, but at least we made a good first effort.

I think he’s going to get this all figured out pretty soon.  He likes to help Mom get the spoon in his mouth, even though his aim is less than perfect.  I am glad he was so interested in helping me.  Here’s a little action from earlier today.  He is always quite the ham for the camera.  Feel free to mute this if you’d rather not listen to my voice…

Carpet!

Todd got the majority of the carpeting taken care of this weekend.  He patched the carpet upstairs and in the living room.  He also carpeted the top half of the stairs.  All that is left is the carpeting on the landing and down the stairs to the main level.  It’s amazing how much better the living room feels already.

We haven’t moved most of the furniture back into the family room yet.  I am planning to have the baby boys and their moms over this week, so it will work out well to have more free space on the carpet and less furniture, anyway.

Every weekend, we get a little closer to a completed house!  Todd’s goal is to get the downstairs finished (not including window sills) before Isaac’s baptism on November 7.  He’s made great progress and I’m enjoying reaping the benefits!

Getting Ready…

I went to Whole Foods today in search of “real” food for Isaac.  He will be six months old on Friday, so it’s about time for us to get started.  I am intending to make some of his food, but before I invest my time into doing that, I bought a few first foods in jars to see what he likes.  There’s no sense spending time steaming and pureeing sweet potatoes if he hates them…  I am sure we will have plenty of amusing photos to post in the near future as we get ready for the next phase.

A little video to show you how much our mini-man is growing!  He  is now able to reach the star mounted at the top of the play gym.  WOW!!!

We expect that Isaac will begin sitting very soon, too.  He’s begun doing “crunches” from a reclined position.  Once he pulls himself up, though, he topples too far forward.  He is getting a little better every day, though!

Let’s Play!

Isaac and I went to post-natal yoga today so we could get out of the house and get some exercise.  As you might imagine, it’s tough to take pictures during a yoga class.  I didn’t even try…  But, so that you can see Isaac at play, here are a few from home.

Isaac loves to play in his high chair while I eat breakfast!

He is also becoming an avid reader.  We enjoy an afternoon story-time.  First he tells the story:

Then he devours the book:

Mommy Day!

Isaac and I had yet another lovely visit with our friends yesterday.  It’s been so fun to watch all of the baby boys grow.  They are able to play with more toys as they get a little stronger.

They are beginning to interact more with one another, which is very exciting.  Nico and Anderson both played with the Sophie, which is actually Archer’s toy.  They are learning to share very young!

Isaac enjoys hanging out with the other mommies now, too.

Allison had the magic touch!

These last 2 are my favorites from the day.  Cash was born April 6 and Isaac was born April 8.  They are starting to be friends!

Jackson and Isaac – funny video

OK, so Isaac is cute, but Jackson totally makes this video.  I was trying to get a few shots of them playing together because Isaac keeps reaching for Jackson.  Jackson thinks this is fun and licks Isaac.  Isaac thinks *this* is fun and laughs.  Instead, this is what I got:

It’s amazing that the camera-work isn’t shakier because I totally cracked up laughing.  You just never know what you’re going to get with a dog and a baby in a video…
